Shaping the Future of Neutron Scattering in Canada: Workshop on Applications, Instruments, and Research Reactor Requirements

Overview:

The Canadian Institute for Neutron Scattering (CINS) and Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) invite you to a virtual workshop designed to bring together stakeholders from the Canadian neutron scattering community:

The Shaping the Future of Neutron Scattering in Canada: Workshop on Applications, Instruments, and Research Reactor Requirements

This workshop will explore neutron scattering applications, instrumentation, and the technical requirements for a new research reactor for Canada. Building on insights from the 2015 CINS Long-Range Plan and the more recent Canadian Neutron Long-Range Plan for 2025 to 2035, this workshop aims to update and refine specifications to meet current and future needs of neutron scattering community.

Workshop Objectives:
– Discuss applications of neutron scattering in advancing research across basic and applied sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) and industry.
– Identify technical needs, including neutron flux and energy (e.g., cold sources), and advanced instrumentation (type and specification).
– Gather community feedback and discuss next steps in the advancement of the Pan-Canadian Multipurpose Research Reactor (PAC-MPRR) initiative.

Expected Outcomes:

– Overview of current and future applications of neutron scattering for basic and applied sciences and industry.
– Updated recommendations for neutron scattering priorities and research reactor requirements.
– Community feedback on next steps for the PAC-MPRR initiative.

Workshop Details:
– Date: February 18, 2025
– Time: 1 pm EST
– Duration: 3 hours
– Location: Virtual.
